“Ma” and “Pa” Wheaton (aka Alice and Larry, Mom and Dad, or Gran and Papaw, but don’t tell Travis that) flew to DC in June, and we promptly whisked them away to THE BEACH….sort of.
We piled into the car, picked up some Chick-a –Fil (ahem, Chick-Fil-A) and drove to the Chesapeake Bay Saturday afternoon.
Although the beach lacked the white sands of Destin, Florida, it was warm, relaxing, and definitely a nice break from the city.
We spent the night in historic Solomon’s Island, MD, which is located only about an hour and a half from Washington D.C. I would definitely recommend this hidden spot to anyone looking for a quiet weekend getaway! We had dinner at a local seafood restaurant and barely missed a performance by Bill Engvall….however, the high of my weekend was dessert. Solomon’s Island is home to Bruster’s Ice cream, one of my most beloved and dearly missed treats from Knoxville!
We explored the island for most of the day Sunday, and then ended the day with a tour of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
Thanks Ma and Pa for spending the weekend with us!
